A. Ditto on the hat. While there are numerous masonic symbols found throughout the area, the fedora is not one of them. Sidenote, Roger Staubach use to refer to Tom Landry as "The Hat"

Who is the greatest head coach - Bill Belichick, Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Don Shula, Tom Landry?
Q. Joe Gibbs is an outstanding coach, but I didn't put him on the list due to his mediocre return with the Redskins from 2004 thru 2007. Mike Ditka was horrible when he returned to coach for the Saints.
Asked by Craziee Panda - Mon Dec 14 20:56:51 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Bill Belichick is a cheater (with all that secret opponent videotaping) and shouldn't be on the list. My vote would be between Bill Parcells and Bill Walsh. I think I would give a slight edge to walsh because of his influence on the game (west coast offense, encouraging assistant promotion and race diversification). Bill Walsh also really knew how to trade for and build teams in the draft. He selected Joe Montanta, Ronnie Lott, Jerry Rice, and Charles Haley from college.

Asked by Johnny - Thu Jul 30 14:47:23 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You forgot Chuck Noll. Tony Dungy played and became a coach under Chuck Noll. That's where Dungy learned his ways before he came up with the cover 2 scheme defense. M. Diego: Dungy came into the league as the assistant Coach to Chuck Noll in 1981. He joined Schottenheimer's Chiefs in 1989. The diagram you supplied is false. Wikki Tony Dungy. I'm a steelers fan I know Dungy played and started his NFL coaching career with the STEELERS. Bill Parcells is responsible for breeding a number of good coaches. As well as Bill Walsh. Bill Walsh learned under the great Paul Brown when Brown left Cleveland to coach the Bengals. Brown took Walsh under his wing to develop the "west coast offense" before Walsh became head coach of the 49ers. Walsh is… [cont.]

A. I think he way he handled it was very wrong. Maybe the Cowboys needed a new coach with fresh ideas, but to fire a living legend made Jerry Jones a pariah. He should at least have offered him a front office job.

How old is the average Bill Belicheck hoodie with cut-off sleeves, and is this as iconic as Tom Landry's hat?

Asked by PaulyDragon - Mon Oct 8 07:41:40 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. He obviously has no class. I have commented on this before on YA. A person can be comfortable without looking homeless. A simple polo shirt and khakis looks very nice on the sidelines. He only wears that cut off sleeved hoodie to say that he can. The Patriots are simply cocky at this point, running up scores when completely unnecessary. Of course they are outscoring their opponents. Their 5 opponents this year have a combined total of six wins between them. I heard on an interview once that he gets a new sweatshirt every week and cuts the sleeves off...ridiculous. He should donate one every week to the homeless shelters then and the streets of Boston will have homeless men looking identical to Bill Belicek walking around.

Q. Why did The New York Giants not keep Vince Lombardi & Tom Landry for?
Asked by carolinefordssuperbragirl - Sat Dec 22 23:00:34 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The Giants were a great team in the '50s, and had a good coach in Jim Lee Howell who was very successful. Landry coached the defense, Lombardi the offense. To be fair to the Giants, no one knew that these two guys were going to be as successful as they were. Lombardi was great, but he also had the good fortune to go to Green Bay just as they were beginning to become a great team. Landry chose to go home to Texas and coach the Cowboys. I'm sure the Giants wanted to hire these guys, but opportunity arose elsewhere for them. How about the '86 and '90 Giants? Bill Parcells was the coach, but he had Bill Belichik, Romeo Crennel, and Charlie Weis on his staff. Parcells "retires", and Belichik would have replaced him, but he had already gone… [cont.]

Q. Does anyone know when (if?) the statue of Tom Landry is going to be moved to the new Cowboys stadium?
Asked by BDZot - Sun Nov 16 14:27:31 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm not a Cowboys fan. I don't care about Jerry Jones. If Jerry Jones doesn't bring the statue of Tom landry to the new venue then he will be exactly what I thought of him. A Classless and arrogant team owner who isn't worth thinking about. Tom Landry is one of the greatest coaches to grace the face of this earth. Tom Landry can't be forgotten no matter how badly Jerry Jones wants to. Any true fan of the Cowboys knows this.

Tom Landry coin?
Q. I purchases two silver coins soon after Tom Landry (cowboy head coach) passed away. They are numbered 1276 and 1275. There were only 2500 made. They are one troy ounce each and on the front is his profile, the back is the cowboy helmet with the two super bowls he won. My question is I am trying to find out if they have much value, I have search the internet in every conceivable way and cannot find a reference to the coin anywhere.

Q. Is Joe Gibbs a better coach than Tom Landry?
Asked by Justin E - Thu Mar 27 18:29:11 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Joe Gibbs is a tremendous all around individual--not only one of the greatest Hall Of Fame Head Football Coaches that have ever been apart of the NFL. The way he led the Redskins to the playoffs after such a tragic murder as that to Sean Taylor. He is a spiritual man who is 100% real. His personality is good for our planet and we need more Joe Gibbs' running around. Tom Landry was an excellent coach too...his personality was more quiet and reserved, but he was a great man.

A. Tom Landry was a football genius. He was instrumental in backfield motion, the shotgun, and the Flex defense. Not to mention the winning record and playoff appearances with the Cowboys. Jimmy Johnson was a good coach, but he had the luxury of very high draft choices his first couple of yeras and he got extremely lucky with the Herschel Walker trade.

A. Roger Staubach read this poem, which was written by Landry's daughter, Lisa Landry Childress. She had died from cancer in 1995. His love is greater than the expanse of the sea. He died a cruel death to save you and me. Although we continue to sin day after day, He forgives us and leads us back his way. His path is straight and narrow, you see. But if we follow his leading, in his will we'll be. This world gives no lasting pleasure, But his kingdom is full of riches beyond measure. Remember to always look above the sun, Until that final day, when his will shall be done. The Lord in his glory will ride on a cloud, And trumpets will blast in the heavens so loud To call his children home at last. Never to look back to those things that are… [cont.]

A. I'm not a Redksins fan (or Cowboys for that matter) but I would go with Gibbs. He had a better record in the Superbowl (3-1 vs 2-3) and did so without a great QB. Landry had Hall of Famer Roger Staubach for both of his wins while Gibbs won despite having mere mortals Mark Rypien, Doug Williams and Joe Thiesman.

A. Bill Walsh at many levels. He took a team who had so many losing seasons and turned it around practically overnight to a dynasty. The Niners brought out the football fan in people who were not football fans. He had an ear for talent. Joe Montana was a good example. Look at him on paper one would not think he was all that great but one of the greatest players of all time. Walsh gave us Jeff Garcia who no one gave a chance. He gave us some great years and if he had an offense that was in support of him he would had a couple of rings under his belt. In that time the Niners were willing to spend money to get good players to keep them in the playoffs and with that because of Bill Walsh and the beginning of building one of the greatest sports… [cont.]
