How much time can a convicted felon get for carrying a firearm in Arkansas?
Q. Does anyone have information on Arkansas fire arm laws? My cousin is on parole and he was arrested for being a felon in posession of a firearm. I would like to know how much time he is facing and does this automatically mean he has to serve the rest of his time. What is the minimum and max he can serve? And what does him getting time depend on? Does his parole officer have any say in this matter?

A. There are a few variables involved here, but basically, if you google "Federal weapons under disability" you will read that any person convicted of any felony crime cannot own, use, purchase or be in the presence of firearms. Using the Fed guideline, that carries a mimimum of 5 years as a stand alone charge. The variable here is what occurred that led to his arrest. If he was going hunting or target shooting, the charge would be possession. If he was in the act of committing a crime and had a weapon on him, there would be multiple charges in connection. As a person on parole, he will be held on a no bond holder pending outcome of the current gun charge. Once that goes through the court system, he will then have a revocation hearing. If… [cont.]
