Education in its broadest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another. Teachers in educational institutions direct the education of students and might draw on many subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics, science and history. This process is sometimes called schooling when referring to the education of teaching only a certain subject, usually as professors at institutions of higher learning. There is also education in fields for those who want specific vocational skills, such as those required to be a pilot. In addition there is an array of education possible at the informal level, such as, in museums and libraries, with the Internet and in life experience. The right to education has been established as a basic human right: since 1952, Article 2 of the first Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights obliges all signatory parties to guarantee the right to education. At world level, the United Nations' International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of 1966 guarantees this right under its Article 13. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What was the education system in South America during the 17th and 18th centuries? Q. I have to write a little essay on the differences of education in North America and South America during the 17th and 18th centuries. Would anyone have any information on the education system in South America? Asked by Anna - Mon Dec 7 01:46:44 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. ~Would you be referring to Dutch colonies in South America? Or French? Or Spanish? Or Portuguese? The Danish Colonies of the West Indies? And are you comparing them to the French colonies of North America, or the Dutch colonies or the English ones, or perhaps the Spanish, Swedish, Finn, Russian or Scottish? If the English, do you refer to those in New England or in the Mid Atlantic or in the South? The question is so overbroad as to be meaningless and idiotic. If you teacher didn't specify any better than you did, tell him/her for me that she/he is a moron. Or are you simply supposed to assume that such generalities can actually be discussed cogently and with some educational purpose? If so, the teacher is not only a moron, but… [cont.] Answered by Oscar Himpflewitz - Mon Dec 7 02:44:49 2009 What is your philosophy of higher education? Q. I am trying to write a paper for one of my classes, and am having a hard time finding information on the topic. Our prof wants us to get others philosophies of higher education and evaluate them and come up with our own. However, when I search "philosophy of higher education" all I get is info on PhD programs! So, if you are a higher ed administrator or an educator, what is your philosophy of higher education, or what is your college's philosophy? Also if you have any tips on where to find this information, or better ways to search, please let me know! Thanks for your help! Asked by JayB - Wed Sep 5 10:57:31 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. One reason why you may not be finding anything specifically on this topic is because it is subjective and interpretive. My opinion is that higher education is fine if it has a practical application. For instance, practicing law or becoming a doctor but there are many other professions where this could hamper the individual. From a professional aspect, the worst Engineers I have ever had on my staff or worked with me are PhD's. Their minds are developed in such an analytical manner that they become dysfunctional. Also, this is compounded by people who achieve degrees all in the same field i.e. engineering. I think it is great from a science perspective but from management or operatability it is useless. I would rather see an… [cont.] Answered by thehazmater - Wed Sep 5 11:14:51 2007 What education is required to become an elementary school teacher?
Q. I am doing a report on my career of choice, a second grade teacher. I am having a bit of difficulty finding a website or even a straight out answer to my question "What education is required to become an elementary school teacher?" Citations would be appreciated.
