Wholesaling, jobbing, or distributing is defined as the sale of goods or merchandise to retailers, to industrial, commercial, institutional, or other professional business users, or to other wholesalers and related subordinated services. In general, it is the sale of goods to anyone other than a standard consumer.

According to the United Nations Statistics Division, "wholesale" is the resale (sale without transformation) of new and used goods to retailers, to industrial, commercial, institutional or professional users, or to other wholesalers, or involves acting as an agent or broker in buying merchandise for, or selling merchandise to, such persons or companies. Wholesalers frequently physically assemble, sort and grade goods in large lots, break bulk, repack and redistribute in smaller lots. While wholesalers of most products usually operate from independent premises, wholesale marketing for foodstuffs can take place at specific wholesale markets where all traders are congregated.

Traditionally wholesalers were closer to the markets they supplied than the source they got the products from..

However, with the advent of the internet and E-procurement there are an increasing number of wholesalers located nearer manufacturing bases in Mainland China, Taiwan and South East Asia like Chinavasion, Ownta, Salehoo and Modbom, many of which offer drop shipping services to companies and individuals.

How can I get my money back from a Chinese Wholesaler that sold me fake designer clothing?
Q. I found a chinese wholesaler online. I guess it was really too good to be true. I ordered my items and sent my money through western union. Received the items a week later. The reason I ordered these items (Juicy Couture handbags, True Religion Jeans...) was to sell them on ebay. The items sold on ebay, but now, buyers want to return them because they are fake. I am now losing money. Can I get this wholesaler into trouble?

A. You could always try in a small claims court. But in reality its a waste of 15 bucks to file and a day off of work. It was really your own fault that you were buying the items that you thought were real and same to the people who bought the items from you unless you stated that the items were rip offs on the ebay page then they wouldn't be able to return them. Again, try a small claims court if you want to bother.

A. Yes, there are lots of companies that will sell in small lots, and even drop ship to your customers. Of course they will do that for just about anyone. I am sure you will get 100 responses from all sorts of vendors. To really have a viable business you need to find a small company or individual that has something special that you can help them sell.
